What is MKCad?

MKCad is a library of COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) parts that you can import directly into Onshape assemblies. These models range from motors and wheels to bearings and electronics.

MKCad App

An Onshape App has been developed for MKCad which can be found here.

After the installation, an MKCad icon should appear on the right (you might have to refresh), which has all of the MKCad files that you need.

<aside> 💡 Some MKCad parts or documents have "configurable" on them. This means you can change a part after inserting it. Right-click the part and find "Change configuration." A menu pops up where you can change specifics (For example, a 12T gear to an 18T gear). This is useful for changing designs afterward you have already inserted a part.

Setting up MKCad

<aside> 💡 This was the method to set up MKCad before the app was released. You can use this if you prefer but you need to make sure you have every MKCad document.

• Go to this link, it’s a search with all of the current MKCad documents.

Onshape

• Click the Labels button in the top left and create a new label for MKCad.

• Highlight all of the documents, and assign the MKCad label to it.

• Now going into an Onshape assembly, click Insert on the top toolbar.
• Go into the Other Documents tab and click the MKCad label.
• Look through the documents and parts to find the product you need.
